More Layouts  & Purse Layouts Below

Because of the intricacies of merging angles and arcs, the New York Beauty quilt block is among the most challenging. Templates and paper piecing have made this concept easier to achieve. Still, in keeping with my goal of taking embroidery beyond the hoop, I offer my New York Beauty machine embroidery quilt blocks series.

These blocks are digitized with all embroidery - no applique or piecing in the hoop. Made with TEXTURED SEMI-OPEN FILLS you will find these blocks to be soft and pliable for any quilt project.

Because I wanted to sew these on colored fabric I made these fills slightly denser than the 8 Point Star block. Some fabric does peek through some areas, so the color fabric you sew these on will affect how the embroidery looks.

I have been noticing more and more quilts made with the New York Beauty block. Colors abound. Let your imagination run wild!

GML’s NYB Project

She writes,

“I had wanted to do the quilt using the simplified version as I have never done one on point. Then I thought, why not give it a try. If it didn't turn out well so be it. I used invisible thread to quilt around the flowers and green thread to quilt down the stems of the flowers. I tried to use decorative stitches on my leaves. Quite pleased with the result. :)

I wanted the wall hanging to look like flowers in a sunny garden so I chose yellow sashing. I had wanted to use a left over orange-yellow fabric for the prairie points but I did not have enough of the fabric so I decided to make it scrappy by mixing the yellow sashing fabric with the orange-yellow fabric. The effect turns out very well. I am very happy with it.:) I could not use the continuous prairie point method to make my prairie points as I used 2 fabrics. I used the traditonal method to make my prairie points instead. I decided to embellish the wall hanging with FSL butterflies and with buttons. I did not join the center of the 2 flowers too well so I decided to hide my imperfection by sewing a button each in the center of the 2 flowers.

The wallhanging is beautiful. I did not expect it to turn out so well. I'll hang it up in my living room tomorrow. :)

Thank you for your wonderful designs.

God Bless

gml”

Patty Barraco’s Project

Patty’s friend writes:

“Hi Laura,

My friend, Patty Barraco, had always wanted to piece a New York Beauty quilt and when she saw your New York Beauties embroidery design, she just had to make it.

She entered the wall hanging in our favorite sewing machine store - Sewing Machine Shop in Walnut Creek, California. Patty won first place in her category. Dan, one of the owners, really liked the wallhanging and now has it hanging in the store front window where I took this picture.

We always love to enter the contests the Shop sponsors twice a year. You won't find any better support or service techs than Dan and Marty, the owners. When you combine that with your beautiful designs which are expertly digitize, you have a winning combination!

Thanks again for the great designs!

Happy Stitching,

Margaret”
